Dear Parents
I trust this Newsletter finds you well after the long weekend. Please find below a few flash cards of pertinent information as we move into a more structured and recognisable weekly timetable and school schedule.
Charity collection
Thank you very much to our parents, pupils and teachers who supported the collection for those who have been adversely affected by the recent catastrophic floods in KZN.
Our collection went to Haven of Rest, who then distributed the donations to families in the Tongaat area.
Haven of Rest, as well as the families who were assisted, were overwhelmed with all that they received from us. They have asked me to communicate their gratitude to the Felixton College family.
Sport
Congratulations to the Heads of Sport and all of the coaches and assistants who have been involved in all sport fixtures to date. It has been a fantastic start to the Winter Sport season this year.
While our traditional fixtures have gone very well, we have done particularly well in tournaments and festivals.
From our under 9s, who did us SO PROUD in Richards Bay two weeks ago, to the 1st XI Hockey boys who won the Crawford La Lucia tournament a few weeks ago, and finished second overall (points and goal count) in the Reddam Ballito tournament this last weekend; we can - and should - be proud of all of our performances to date.
I have mentioned two teams in particular, but I am equally proud of EVERY team, EVERY player, and EVERY coach who represents Felixton College.
Academic update – High School
With Mrs Kietzmann having left, the following adjustments to classes have been made. The point of departure in setting up these changes is twofold: to keep disruption for the pupils to a minimum, and to keep teachers with the relevant experience and expertise in positions to deliver the best possible academic product to our pupils.
To this end, Mr Jacobs will return to Mathematical Literacy Grades 10–12. He will also be teaching the Grade 10 Business Studies class.
Mrs Minnie will teach Grade 12 Business Studies, Miss Reddy will teach Grade 11 Business Studies and Mrs Mathew will teach EMS along with Mrs Minnie.
Covid
A quick reminder to be aware that the expected ‘5th wave’ is upon us. While there is no need to fear any State of Disaster Risk Alert Level action at this point, please continue to be cautious (merely for your own well-being and preservation) and follow protocols as and when required. Our focus is on being as safe as possible and guarding against high rates of absenteeism and school interruption.
Staff news
Congratulations to Mrs Lize Mathew (nee du Toit) who married Mr Oliver Mathew on Thursday 28 April 2022.
I also take this opportunity to formally offer our condolences to Mrs Michelle Eliot on the passing of her husband, Peter. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family
