ISSUE 36/2008
QUOTE FOR THE WEEK:
The great acts of love are done by those who are habitually performing acts of kindness.
BUS TRANSPORT 2009
Following the substantial increase in the price of petrol in 2008, we were faced with a busfare increase for 2009 in excess of 20%. In order to prevent this happening, we have decided to rationalise our bus routes for 2009. The 13:20 bus run was only being used by a few people and in 2009 there will be buses leaving school at 14:30 and 15:40. Children finishing school earlier than 14:30 will be provided with a venue where they can do homework. By doing this we have managed to keep our busfare increase down to 5%.
KEN KRIGE

"Count Your Blessings" was the theme of the Roots Nativity play last week - an event we all thoroughly enjoyed!

STATIONERY, SCHOOL MAGAZINE AND REPORT COLLECTION
Please be reminded that the Waltons Back to School stationery packs must be collected from the Junior School Art Room (Mrs Bevis’ classroom) on Tuesday 2 December 2008 from 08:00 – 11:00.
High School reports must be collected during this time, and these will be available in the Media Centre. Please remember that reports cannot be given to any other students or parents and will not be available after 11:00 due to a scheduled Staff Meeting.
Junior School reports will be handed to the learners at 10:00.
Please remember that cheque payments should be made to Waltons and NOT to Felixton College.
The 2008 Roots and Wings magazine will also be distributed on the last day.
REMINDER........PLEASE PRIORITISE
We remind you that we are collecting items and kindly request that learners bring one or all of the following. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and we know they will bring huge smiles to the faces of the recipients.
· New or used stationery (in good condition) for the Izulu Orphan Project.
· New of old toys and storybooks (in good condition) for the little children at Mvuzemvuze School.
· Tinned foods or non-perishable foods for hampers for the Felixton College Cleaning and Ground Staff.
CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT/JUNIOR PRIMARY NATIVITY
Please remember to join us on Wednesday 26th November at 17:30 at Dickson Oval for Carols by Candlelight. Bring your picnic blankets and baskets, friends and family and come and enjoy the evening with us. Braai fires will be available.
LOST PROPERTY
There are a lot of unmarked items sitting on the ‘Lost Property’ shelves. PLEASE ask your children to look for items that they have mislaid. These shelves will be emptied soon, and unclaimed items given to those less fortunate.
DADS/LADS AND DADS/LASSES CRICKET
On Friday afternoon, Dickson Oval was a hive of cricket activity as 140 dads and their sons or daughters played in a fun tournament. In true Felixton College style, surrogate fathers were organized to pair up with learners where necessary, and a wonderful afternoon was shared.
Thank you to all of you who supported this fun event.

SPORT
Exciting news………
The Junior 1st Team Boys’ and Girls’ Hockey teams will be attending the Vodacom Hockey Week in Stellenbosch from the 3 – 8 April 2009. Team selections will take place early next year (keep an eye on the Term Planner for details)!
The squads will fly to Cape Town and participate in the Tournament as well as enjoy two days of sight seeing. The cost of the tour is approximately R4200-00 per person (subject to change as we can only secure air tickets early next year). This amount could come down significantly with well-planned fundraising and sponsorships. If anyone has contacts for air tickets and/or transport whilst in Cape Town – please contact Mrs. Wickham urgently. If you would like additional information, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Wickham in the Sports Office.
