IT'S OFFICIAL...FELIXTON COLLEGE IS THE BEST CRICKETING SCHOOL IN ZULULAND!
The Zululand Observer's statement last week that Grantleigh has probably lost their superiority to Felixton College as the leading cricket school in the district, motivated both schools to rise to the occasion on Saturday in the hotly contested cricket derby between the two schools.
On Saturday, our 1st X1 team lost the toss and was asked by Grantleigh to bat first, in very overcast conditions, definitely favouring the bowling side. Felixton College batted first, in very difficult batting conditions. Although it was very hard to score runs, the two openers batted very responsibly, scoring 76 runs for the first wicket. Felixton College eventually scored 158/4 in their allotted 40 overs. Best batsmen: Gary Krige 51 not out, Johnny Riekert 34 and Jacob Bijumark 17 not out.
Grantleigh went in to bat and got off to a flying start scoring 24 without loss in 4 overs, but the Felixton College bowlers persisted and had the Grantleigh side in trouble at 70/7. A very good run-out by Johnny Riekert sealed it for Felixton College, with Grantleigh being bowled out for 125.
Best bowlers: Johnny Riekert 3/13, Gareth Flook 2/14 and Jason Pennefather 2/23
Felixton College won the match by 33 runs confirming that cricket is more than alive and well at Felixton College.
AND WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF CRICKET SUCCESS, Christine Scheepers and Robyn Pillay have both been selected for the KZN U13 Girls Cricket Team. These latest achievements bring our KZN cricket representation to 6 this year - well done to all the players.
