THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: We make a living by what we get - we make a life by what
we give.
WELCOME back to school for the final term of 2009. The term is just over 8 weeks long and is jam-packed with all sorts of exciting events, an Achiever's Dinner, a Nativity Play, many sporting fixtures, prize-givings and end of year parties. On top of this, there is the critical matter of the end of year exams and all of our learners must please prioritise their preparations for this important aspect of College life.
Despite some administrative challenges this year, prospects for 2010 are looking very good with the promise of an increased intake right across the grades.
FELIXTON COLLEGE NETS 2 KZN CRICKETERS AND 2 KZN RURAL CRICKETERS!!! HOWZAT!

GRADE 11 LIFE SCIENCE EXCURSION TO DURBAN
(Article written by Ignus van Zyl)
Our journey started nigh on 6 o’clock, a mite earlier than most students wake up. The trip to Durban was jovial if uneventful, and although many had been to uShaka before, we had not anticipated how the day would play out. We received a guided tour of the aquarium, learning and observing what was hitherto unknown to us all. From an architectural aspect, we learnt that most of the aquarium is built in perspective, giving the illusions of walking on the roof, and even imaginary slanting. We also saw, much to our delight, octopus eggs, a rate and interesting phenomenon. We also witnessed shark embryos and saw the Jackass penguin.
The education portion, on population dynamics and studies, was enlightening, although truthfully, a little tedious. Nonetheless, Ms Simenson assures us that the experience was preferable to the classroom lecture that it replaced.
After this intellectual escapade, we travelled to Gateway, quickly buying some nourishment before our Imax experience,The Human Body, which made some of us question the reason we ate beforehand. This was the richest learning experience of the day, par excellence, although some of it might have been better disregarded. The stomach is not a dignified organ. All in all, it was a day not soon forgotten, spent with those who appreciate such endeavours.
We give our thanks to Ms Simenson for an excellent field trip, and the College for part sponsoring it.
