Congratulations to Thimika Sivalingam (Gr 8), Daniel Dias (Gr 9), Tim Krige (Gr 10), Luke Goodenough (Gr 11) and Charmaine Drury (Gr 12) who won the public speaking competition in their grades respectively. It was an enjoyable evening, and especially the Impromptu Section was exciting.
Xander van Zyl, Arshad Vawda and Ignus van Zyl took the honours in the unprepared section and made the audience laugh with their graphic descriptions. We want to welcome the Grade 8’s – Devon Cameron, Kaiti Faul, Euan Cloete, Thimika Sivalingam and Xander van Zyl. They performed so well! We are looking forward to listening to them speak again next term.

PRESTIGE TOUR TO THE PORTUGUESE ISLANDS - GRADE 11 AND 12

The Prestige Tour is "the" highlight of the year for Grade 11's and 12's fortunate enough to be selected to go. It is a reward for their performance in and out of the classroom and their positive contribution to College life. This year 32 learners went on the cruise accompanied by teachers and some parents.

Extract from Ignus van Zyl (Grade 11)

After more than a year of dreaming, Friday the 13th came and we exchanged Felixton College for the MSC MELODY….
We arrived, knowing little that we would hardly sleep in three days for fear of missing the next show or party that seemed to always take place five minutes from the last one. By Saturday night many feet had been sore and legs stiff from the constant dancing and yet we all held a smile on our face, revelling in the lively atmosphere that permeated the ship. The time spent on the cruise seemed both endless and hastened. It seemed as if excitement alone gave us the energy to dance the weekend away. The extravagant shows were filled with a variety of talents that astounded us, entertained us and left us wanting more. Apart from many dance routines there were magicians, acrobats, jugglers and quick change artists, a seeming circus confined to the ship.

Monday morning we all looked at the world in a different way – through red, tired eyes… but with hearts full of memories and a promise to do this again next year.

Some of the happy cruisers who went on the Prestige Tour during the mid-term break.

The learners will be doing a presentation on the Cruise to the rest of the High School in the next week.

WORLD BOOK DAY - FRIDAY 6 MARCH
To celebrate World Book Day. “Books 2 You” will be selling books in the School hall on Tuesday 3 March from 10:00 – 16:00 and on Wednesday 4th March from 07:00 – 12:00. Their books are usually very reasonably priced and they always have a great selection from which to choose.

Each grade will be involved in celebrating World Book Day on Friday 6 March. All primary school children must come to school dressed as their favourite book character. The grade teachers will provide the children with more information about what they need to do and wear.

We would like to ask each child to bring a book from home that they have already read. These books will be donated to underprivileged children so that they too may experience the joy of reading.

PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION NEWS........

Felixton Mountain Bike Challenge

Preparations are underway to have the second Felixton Mountain Challenge on the 29th March. Last year’s event was a fun-filled morning with family and friends braving the weather and riding or supporting riders in the 5km, 10 km, 30km and 50 km races.

The PA would like to make this an even bigger event with more riders participating and they therefore require help from you, the parents, in the following areas:
marshalling, manning water tables, selling of food, setting up the field on Saturday 28th March, registration on Saturday or Sunday, and finally selling advertising space on the t-shirt or in the form of banners along the various routes.

If you are willing to help in any of these areas, please contact Lyn Kok on 0824856525 or e-mail <a href=" This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
