THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
:  The father is the head of the house;
The mother is the heart of the house.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE
Parents are informed that as of Monday 10 May, 2010, the Richards Bay bus route times will change.

The pick up times will be as follows:

Post Office – Meerensee – 06:30      (previously 06:35)
John Ross College – 06:45               (previously 06:50)

Please ensure that your child is in time for the morning bus.  Although the change is slight, we are hoping that it will make a difference to the arrival time at school, and allow the learners to be in time for the new attendance register procedure which will be introduced on Monday 10 May 2010.

MEASLES AND POLIO VACCINE CAMPAIGN
Following the recent increase in Measles cases in the area, Felixton College will be participating in a vaccine campaign by the Department of Health for learners under the age of 15.  Correspondence has been sent home today in this regard.  The DOH will visit the College on Friday 7 May 2010.  Please ensure that your consent forms are completed and returned by Wednesday 5 May.  No consent forms = no vaccine.

FROM THE PREP DESK

Dear Parents, Boys and Girls

It was wonderful to see our young charges ‘giving it their all’ on the rugby field, the hockey field and the netball courts on Friday and Saturday last week.  Not all games were won, but the games were contested in a fair and sporting manner, and each individual tried their very best.  Well done, and thank you to all the coaches for giving up their time over the weekend.

We are now well and truly into our extra mural timetable.  Netball, hockey and rugby are our major sports codes this term.  Please note that we have a policy of maximum participation.  Each pupil that attends practices will be given the opportunity to represent Felixton in a match/matches.  Please use this opportunity to support your children as they ‘give it their all’ on the sports fields and netball courts.

Congratulations to RUBEN KOK and LAURA HUNT on their appointments as Head Boy and Head Girl of the Prep School for 2010.

And finally, on the lighter side of life, I have included a list of traits of girls and boys taken from Dr. James Dobsen’s book “Bringing up Boys”.  Don’t you love the spontaneity and creativity of children.  Here boys and girls come up with a list of characteristics pertaining to themselves and members of the opposite sex.

“GIRLS ARE MORE BETTER THAN BOYS”

• Girls chew with their mouths closed
• Girls are more kinder to animals
• Girls walk more politely
• Girls can do their hair better
• Girls don’t pick their nose
• Girls don’t eat as much
• Girls like to get more tan
• Girls look better than boys
• Girls have more manners
• Girls put on deodorant more often

“WHY BOYS ARE MORE BETTER THAN GIRLS”

• Boys can sit in front of a scary movie and not close their eyes once
• Boys were created first
• Boys learn to make funny noises with their armpits faster
• Boys don’t do all those wiggly movements when they walk
• Boys don’t waste their life at the Mall
• Boys don’t braid another’s hair
• Boys can hang onto their stomachs on fast rides
• Boys don’t worry about ‘diet this’ and ‘diet that’
• Boys don’t cry and feel sorry when they kill a fly
• Boys are proud of their odour
