Felixton College

Set in the secure, leafy village of Felixton on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, Felixton College has become famous for its outstanding achievements in the classroom, on the sports field and on stage.

Despite our small size, we compete with the top few schools in the whole of KZN in the Maths, English and Afrikaans Olympiads at primary and high school level.  In 2009, one of our students was placed 3rd in the country in the de Beers English Olympiad, and another was placed 1st in the Junior Afrikaans Olympiad. In KZN, 5 of the top 50 senior mathematicians were Felixton students, putting us well ahead of all the old established schools in the province.  In the final round of AMESA maths, the only gold medal and the only 5 silver medals in Zululand were won by Felixton Primary children.  We boast a 100% Matric pass rate since the inception of the school in the internationally recognised IEB examinations and last year our top candidate achieved a full-house of 7 distinctions. On the sports field we compete with much bigger schools and are now recognised in the press as the top cricketing school in Zululand. No fewer than 7 of our cricketers currently represent KZN. On the stage, Felixton is well known for outstanding dance and dramatic shows. Our singers have received wide acclaim in national and international competitions.

Despite all this, Felixton has retained the friendly family ethos that is well-known to Old Felixtonians. The boarders in our small boarding establishment are seen playing cricket, soccer, tennis or touch rugby on the fields most afternoons between prep and supper and this adds to the village atmosphere.

All our learners from Grade 4 and above participate in annual tours, which include outdoor activities, team-building challenges, camping, survival activities, extended hikes in the Drakensberg, nature education in the bushveld and the like. An annual rugby festival is attended by schools from around South Africa. This, together with art festivals and sporting derby days complete a full annual calendar.
